8(a) Federal Sales Stats

Based upon the most recent SBA data that is completely available to us, the average 8(a) Certified Federal Contractor has more than $7.3MM per year in Federal Prime Contracting. Additionally, 8(a) Certified Contractors average over $2.8MM in Federal Subcontracting. This combines for a total of nearly $10.2MM per year in federal sales.

Federal Prime Contracting
8(a) Certified firms outperform their non-8(a) peers in federal sales so much so that they represent 38.5% of all Federal Small Business Primary Contractor Sales.

Subcontracting
In addition, 8(a) Certified firms also do a lot in Small Business Subcontracting Sales. On a per firm basis it’s quite substantial at over $2.8MM annually. Generally, 8(a) Subcontracting can be a great way for smaller firms to get their feet wet in federal contracting by registering with large Fortune 500 type businesses that need to meet their 8(a) small business subcontracting goals.

While the numbers per firm have been increasing steadily on an annual basis for quite some time leaving some to think how could it keep going up, once the complete numbers for 2019 are made available, I am sure we will all see that they in fact did yet again increase. At 5,909 8(a) Certified firms as of yesterday, and total sales at or above the previous high-water mark that was achieved last year, it would be impossible for them not to do so. Small business entrepreneurs looking to brighten their firm’s future business development efforts should look to become certified as soon as possible.
