Increase Your Sales Using a Joint 8(a) Certification and GSA Schedule Strategy

The current US administration will introduce a new effort to enhance government contracting with small, disadvantaged firms. The 8(a) MAS Pool will help more firms with an 8(a) Certification be eligible for federal contracting opportunities.

The heads of the US Small Business Administration and the US General Services Administration announced a joint effort known as the 8(a) MAS Pool to help small, disadvantaged businesses participating in the 8(a) Business Development Program gain access to more federal contracts in GSA's Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) Program and advance the current administration's goal of increasing contracts to SDBs. This agreement would create a pool of 8(a) firms to make it easier for procurement officials to find and deal with small, disadvantaged businesses across industries.

Participants will obtain a designation indicating to agency purchasers that a business is qualified for 8(a) sole source awards and competitive set-asides after being admitted into the newly created 8(a) MAS Pool. In order to accomplish their SDB contracting goals and make wise purchases, federal agencies will be able to take advantage of the size and scope of the MAS marketplace.

Below is the sales table for Fiscal Year 2022 for 8(a) certified businesses, as well as those on the GSA Schedule with an 8(a) Certification. It shows that only 28% of the current 8(a) participants also hold a GSA Schedule.

Consider combining an 8(a) Certification with a GSA Schedule for two-pronged approach if you're thinking about getting either one standalone. In addition to increasing sales through the GSA Schedule, this also gives an 8(a) firm more exposure in the federal market.

If you have interest in exploring your firm’s eligibility and potential with the 8(a) Certification and/or GSA Schedule, I always recommend contacting an industry expert such as ez8a, Advance 8a or Advance GSA. None of the aforementioned charge for an initial consultation.
