NMSDC Certification Gradually Takes Over State MBE Certification

Has your team sought a NMSDC certification for your business?

The National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) has developed a standardized process to certify a company as a minority-owned company. NMSDC currently has 1,422 private sector partners seeking to serve its 12,000 members. The non-profit organization also provides bespoke services to minority-owned businesses through regional councils.

NMSDC State Takeover

NMSDC has been so effective that we have seen elimination of state-run MBE programs in favor of using the NMSDC Certification. The benefit for users is that a minority-owned business can participate in contracts in all these states without having to file for MBE separately.

21 states have replaced their MBE Certification with a NMSDC Certification. This means it is the certification recognized by these states for preference when awarding government contracts in those states. The states are:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Michigan
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • South Dakota
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Wyoming

If your state is one of the listed states, or if you are looking for government opportunities in one of these states, now may be the right time to get an NMSDC certification. I recommend an industry expert such as ez8a to guide you through this process. They do not charge for an initial consultation, and can be found at the following click:
