Aspiring 8a

Your Small Business Has Full Potential

For seasoned, socially and economically disadvantaged small business owners who have been in operation for at least two years or more, and are eager to increase their presence in the federal market, the 8(a) BD Program can be an incredibly useful resource. The 8(a) Certification provides special and beneficial company support. Although the 8(a) Certification does not ensure contract awards, it exacerbates the ease of pursuing and winning lucrative government opportunities.

Benefits of the 8(a) Program

  • Your company is eligible to compete for sole-source and competitive set-aside contracts through the program if it has an 8(a) Certification.
  • The government permits sole-source contracts to 8(a) participants for purchases with manufacturing North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes of up to $7 million, $4.5 million for all other purchases. All other federal agencies require approval for sole-source 8(a) contract actions that exceed $25 million.
  • Entity-owned 8(a) program participants are eligible for sole-source contracts above these thresholds, but the Department of Defense requires a formal justification if the contract exceeds $100 million.

Participants in the 8(a) program are qualified to compete for contract awards under other socio-economic programs or small business set-asides.

Eligibility of the 8(a) Program

If you have any questions about your eligibility, or assistance with the 8(a) Certification process, I always recommend contacting an industry expert such as ez8a or Advance 8a. Either would be excited to assist you in determining whether the 8(a) program will benefit your company. Neither charge for an initial consultation.
