8(a) Certification Qualification

My husband and I own an LLC business together and we did not put what percentage we own, so I’m guessing we own 50/50. My husband is a minority, so can we both apply for our business to get 8a certified since he is a minority and I am a woman? Is that considered a disadvantage business? Could we show we each own 50 % of the business or does one need to own 51% or more?

Jesse Dunbar, Editor Said : Yes, you can become an 8(a) certified firm as a minority and/or a woman, even as a service-disabled veteran, but the SBA gets very specific and technical concerning percentage of ownership, etc, requiring 51% from whichever vantage point is selected. I would suggest contacting an industry expert such as ez8a or Advance 8a to navigate that process. They do not charge for an initial consultation.
